Biosketch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joana Isabel Gomes, born September 16th 1994 in Lisbon, Portugal is a highly motivated, rigorous, and dynamic person, with a constant need of challenging the unknown and gaining new knowledge. Currently, Joana is a PhD candidate at Cellular Neurophysiology Lab, Department of Biomedicine, University of Basel, Basel, Switzerland. She is developing her PhD project under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Josef Bischofberger. Previously, Joana did a BSc degree in Biochemistry at the Faculty of Science, University of Algarve, Faro, Portugal and a MSc degree in Neuroscience at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She developed both BSc and MSc degree projects at Ana Sebasti\u00e3o Lab, Instituto de Medicina Molecular Jo\u00e3o Lobo Antunes (iMM), under the supervision of Dr. Sandra Vaz. During her time at iMM she participated in several workshops and courses that improved her research, leadership and teaching skills. She also presented her work (developed during the BSc and MSc degrees) at several national and international conferences, further increasing her communication skills and she also published two review papers as first author. After finishing her MSc degree, she started working as a laboratory technician at Champalimaud Foundation and afterwards she travelled to Switzerland to start her PhD project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Testimony<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

iMM was my home for 3 and a half years. I entered there as an innocent BSc student, who didn\u2019t know anything about how research worked and I left as a confident researcher, 100% certain that I was ready to challenge myself and be successful. iMM has an incredible
environment for both professional and interpersonal development. There, I met some of the most amazing researchers, all of them full of enthusiasm, curiosity, passion and a huge desire to construct a better world. I learned a lot from them! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Actually, at iMM I learned almost everything I know today. I grew up so much as a person and as a researcher there. I also made really good friendships and my experience there just reinforced my passion for biomedical research, and led me to where I am today. I am truly grateful for the time I spent there and I will always miss it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
