Biosketch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My name is Romina Lopes Coelho. Currently, I am working from a biochemical and a biological point of view on my PhD topic \u201cThe role of secondary modification of S100B in protein aggregation and its influence on Alzheimer\u2019s disease pathology\u201d. The binational PhD project takes place in Lisbon, Portugal, under the supervision of Prof. Cl\u00e1udio Gomes and in Limerick, Ireland, under the supervision of Prof. Andreas Grabrucker. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am an eager learner, hard working and enjoy new challenges when working independently and when working in a team. I enjoy the involvement in designing, conducting and critically drawing conclusions from my experiments and find cultural diversity very inspiring to slightly different thinking. My masters, I did at the Universit\u00e9 de Strasbourg, France. It was a trinational master program with classes also in Basel and Freiburg. Moreover, this master allowed me to dive into a valuable taste for the research experience in Lisbon at the IMM (making Lisbon an attractive destination for my PhD). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All this international environment brought not only personal but also professional richness. My Bachelor I concluded at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universit\u00e4t Freiburg, Germany, where I obtained a solid education in Biology, for which I am also very grateful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Testimony<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During my short but precious time at the iMM, I found that students were encouraged to work independently on their own niche of interest, while Ideas were shared and critically discussed by everyone. Through training the faculty\u2019s mentorship explored each student\u2019s potential. I enjoyed being immersed in that learning experience and took with me various new experimental techniques. My fellow students were friendly, supportive, and fun and I do enjoy meeting them once in a while on common research events.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
