Testimony
I am Ana Antão and I am a PhD student at the Universitätsklinikum Erlangen, Germany, since November 2019. My career path has been a huge roller coaster. I have lived in three different countries since I left IMM (UK, France and now Germany).
I have worked in different labs and got knowledge in different scientific topics. I gave up a PhD position and I started a new one. I have met many people and got to know different cultures. But, I am always proud to say that my journey started at the Instituto de Medicina Molecular (IMM) – João Lobo Antunes. I was lucky to be part of this team first as a master stundent and then as a research assistant. It was in this institute where I met some of the people that until today are references for me in science.
I joined IMM in 2015 to do my master thesis in AESousa Lab. I was given the opportunity to work with HIV which was something that I really wanted to do since I got more and more interested with science. During this time, I had the opportunity to learn from and work with amazing scientists. Until today, I take all the knowledge I got everywhere I go. The scientists in IMM have shown me how great science can be done, despite the little resources you might have. I truly believe that working at IMM led me to where I am now.
