Biosketch

My name is Margarida Rodrigues. In 2015 I started my academic path in the Integrated Masters in Biological Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico, given my interest in life sciences but also in mathematics and technology. Between September 2020 and July 2021, I developed my master thesis project at IMM, in Luis Costa Lab, aiming to establish a strategy to detect circulating tumour cells in blood samples of renal cell carcinoma patients. Later on, I went for an interrail across Europe. At the moment I am looking for new challenges and opportunities.

Testimony

Although it occurred during a quite odd period, my experience at IMM was really positive and definitely a big challenge. It allowed me to learn a lot, to contact directly with the reality of the life in the lab in an institution which has always been a reference to me, as well as to work with fantastic people with diverse backgrounds and, ultimately, to become even more pragmatic and resilient. Despite having been an extremely positive experience, it was also the key to understand that, at least for now, my path will not follow the academic field.
