I am a computational biologist interested in using computational approaches and large-scale genomics data to understand the cis-regulatory information encoded in the DNA sequence. I got my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences and continued onto the MSc in Oncobiology, both at the University of Algarve. I then joined Nuno Barbosa Morais’s computational biology group at iMM to do my Master’s thesis, focusing on the molecular mechanisms underlying tumour development.

I am now a PhD student at Alex Stark Lab (IMP), where I am using deep learning approaches and massively parallel reporter assays to study the DNA sequence of transcriptional enhancers and their role in gene regulation.

Testimony

I spent two great years at the iMM for my Master’s thesis, both scientifically in Nuno Morais group and close to the great science of the different groups, but also personally thanks to the warm and collaborative community of the institute. It is a place of high-quality science, collaborations, friendship and fun, all due to its main feature: good people.

iMM prepared me well to move abroad and to different challenges for my PhD, and my achievements will always be in part the success of iMM.
